Feedback for Fashion in Schools

“Thank you very much for speaking to the students yesterday - you have definitely made a great impression on them (and I very much felt the power too!).”

Kay Liu, Lecturer in Sustainable Fashion, Kingston University (2023)

Bel’s workshop was mentioned many times as being a real highlight.  The clothing industry is an aspect of the climate crisis that we have barely touched upon until now and the students are still buzzing about it.”

Trish Braziar, St John Lewes School. Student Climate Change and Sustainability Conference at the Rohamstead Conference Centre. (2023)

“Bel’s talk was empowering, moving and informative. Her unique history as a former fashion editor turned environmental activist enabled for fascinating discussion. I gained an understanding of both the exhilirating and devastating elements of the fashion world. Bel interrogates the seductive force pushing us to buy, buy, buy, asking us to question why we believe material goods will make us whole.

There is an urgent need to inform young people about the climate crisis and enable them to take action in simple ways, like simply stopping buying clothes. Bel’s talk does just that and it should reach every student - for education must be rigorous, not only academically but also in preparing us for the climate emergency, our future.

Finally, having a Maker (Ellie), there to teach us how to create a bag out of an old t-shirt was a perfect way to end the event, as it allowed everyone to be creative, to breathe, to have fun and to work with their hands.”

Eden Rickson, Students Union Environment Officer, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (2020)

“Bel delivered her talk on Fast Fashion in an incredibly clear, engaging and passionate way. She was able to relate the talk to our young people and encouraged them to be active citizens - something we, as a school, encourage them to be. We would definitely have Bel in again to raise awareness of such a pressing and important issue.”

Harkirat Gata-Aura, teacher, Mossbourne Community Academy. (2020)

“My 11-year-old daughter came back from Bel’s online workshop, full of new knowledge and information that she really wanted to share with me. I’m so glad she gathered this insight at her young age.”

Jake Farr, Psychologist, North London.

August 2020.

Feedback for one of Bel’s talks on animal rights for Animal Aid: “Thank you for an excellent, thought provoking talk today. I think it was really beneficial and exactly what my sixth formers needed to hear. Brother Augustine turned to me at the end of the talk and said that the presentation and content was 'beautiful', in that it really opened up a very important and often hidden area of life.”

Father Andrew Ebrahim, St John College, Wandsworth.
