Big Talent at LFW Men's AW17
GRACE WALES BONNER. The winner of 2016’s LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, men's designer Wales Bonner has a rep for tossing aside gender distinctions and drawing from the traditions of the Indian sub-continent, amongst others, to create a uniquely luxurious androgyny. Read more about her here.
CRAIG GREEN. Scooping a billing from gq.com as ‘this year’s most exciting menswear designer’ is only one of Green’s continually beautiful achievements, including winning last year’s British Fashion Council/GQ Designer Menswear Fund prize fund.
JW ANDERSON. From the bustiers and frilled shorts of AW13 to oversized dress shirts and dangling sleeves of SS17, almost every men's show by Anderson, who is also creative director of Loewe, creates shock waves. If you only see one collection this season, this would be it.
CHARLES JEFFREY LOVERBOY. From the exuberant clubber’s aesthetic of his early collections, for SS17, Jeffrey’s work mutated into fluid tailored jackets, belted coats and blazers with cinched waists and slashed sleeves - with just enough mix-and-match to stay close to its subcultural roots.
FENG CHEN WANG. Jeffrey’s spiritual reflection is fellow MAN-er and RCA MA men's graduate Feng Chen Wang, whose functional, futuristic collections are born from Wang’s life experiences, including - for her runway debut for SS16 - her father’s cancer diagnosis and survival.
PER GOTESSON. Few will forget the model wearing an outfit Götesson’s RCA graduate collection, sadly dragging his oversized, raw-edged denim suit through an abandoned hotel perfectly encapsulating the designer’s muse: ‘a little lost boy, a sensitive one.’
ROTTINGDEAN BAZAAR. Boldly anarchic, this partnership between two CSM MA grads presses flowers, carrots and straw onto clothes. They also crafted a portrait of Che Guevara out of their own hair and currently sell badges made with pubic hair. Lively stuff. Featured image from Pylot Magazine. Photography by Annie Collinge.
