Asia’s leading upcycled fashion brand, The R Collective announces an exclusive retail partnership with NET-A-PORTER.com as it joins the online luxury fashion retailer’s curated platform of ethical brands, NET SUSTAIN.

The R Collective’s eight-piece upcycled collection was designed in collaboration with award-winning sustainable designers, Wen Pan and Weiyu Hung, to celebrate the beauty of upcycling, circular fashion and to prove that luxury fashion need not be wasteful.

“We’re passionate about uniting sustainable designers and increasingly conscious consumers in our efforts to reduce fashion’s waste, whilst celebrating the power of fashion to be an agent of change,” says The R Collective’s Founder, Christina Dean.

Created from other luxury brands’, mills’ and manufacturers’ excess materials, destined for landfill, incineration or downcycling, The R Collective reimagines the destiny of these unwanted fabrics to produce modern, timeless and hardworking pieces.

Both Pan and Hung are from the Redress Design Award, the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition. “For me, fashion is not only clothing,” explains Hung, a Chinese contemporary womenswear designer based in the Netherlands. “Fashion is about how we see our world. It’s about living with our changing attitudes so we can find better solutions to benefit others.”

Weiyu’s designs for The R Collective on NET SUSTAIN include his upcycled Karl Dress, which effortlessly references classic trench coat designs.

Other The R Collective pieces available on NET SUSTAIN were designed by London based, Chinese sustainable designer, Wen Pan, whose signature deconstructed pieces celebrate the beauty in imperfection. Her Bermondsey belted cropped houndstooth upcycled wool wide-leg pants offer a fresh take on tailoring, while her Ely upcycled asymmetric upcycled cotton-blend dress with frayed seams give an edge. Her Aldgate Dress has a distinctive yet classic silhouette, sitting alongside her Dalston Trench, a definite must-have wardrobe staple.

NET SUSTAIN is now also home to in-house designed pieces led by The R Collective’s Creative Director, Denise Ho. Both the Victoria Dress and the Welland Skirt were created using top quality fabrics from other leading luxury brands.

NET SUSTAIN launched in June 2019 and in January 2020 expanded its collection of brands to 100 labels, including Stella McCartney, Mara Hoffman, Gabriela Hearst, E.L.V. Denim and Deadwood. The R Collective’s inclusion on NET SUSTAIN comes at a pivotal time as the fashion industry continues to battle to reduce its 92 million tons of industry textile waste generated every year and its estimated 10 percent contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions.

Meanwhile, shoppers are increasingly conscious of their environmental impact, with more than a third of consumers reporting they have already switched from their preferred brand to another because it credibly stands for positive environmental and/or social practices.

The R Collective is available online now at NET-A-PORTER.COM. Price points from USD225 to USD575.
