Fashion Futures 2019
On Sunday September 15th, Fashion Futures - a bi-annual catwalk show for emerging design - will showcase the SS20 collections of four talented designers at Devonshire Square. This year’s line up says volumes about the priorities for young designers; sustainability, the future of the planet and fashion’s role within that, lies at the core of inspiring collection.
Six time Graduate Fashion Week nominee and three time winner Aurelie Fontan produces sustainable couture with a strong emphasis on circularity and ethical manufacture, combining traditional craft andinnovative technology. Her collections reflect this technocraft concept, where biodegradable garments are made from living systems. For her collection, Aurélie tackles leather waste in the car and upholstery industry, with a 100% upcycled collection combining smart weaving and grown mycelium for a circular model that revisits traditional manufacturing techniques.
Liverpool John Moores graduate Daisy Miller sources and re-appropriates vintage and secondhand embellishment, trims and motifs to produce new fabrication and surface decorations. Her previous collection was featured in HUFF and Spaghetti mag.
French designer Manon Planche graduated from the University of Westminster in 2018. Positive fashion is at the heart of her multifaceted collections, which focus on ethical manufacture and zero waste production whilst creating bold, printed and textured pieces meant to empower women.
Finally, British designer and stylist Priya Jangda graduated from London College of Fashion, battling against cultural conventions of landing in a white-collar job to pursue her true passion: fashion design. After graduating, she worked in various fashion houses before launching Quillattire, a genderless, sustainable streetwear brand with the motto: 'I am who I am. Your approval is not needed.' The brand upcycles vintage to give it another life and uses organic bamboo and end-of-line fabrics.
The event and its after party will raise funds for The Prince's Trust - with funds raised going to their entrepreneurs.
